One of the major routine diseases in India, Gastrointestinal disorders include Peptic Ulcer, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), Appendicitis, Hemorrhoids, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) along with any kind of cancerous tumors present in the gastronomical tract. In a bid to lead a healthy lifestyle, an early screening of gastronomical tract is quite necessary. The warning symptoms are chest pain, chronic pain, nausea, vomiting and constipation.

GASTROENTEROLOGY SURGERY

Gastroenterology surgery is a surgical treatment that treats diseases in the digestive tract as well as malignant (cancerous) and benign (non-cancerous) medical issues that affect the body’s digestive system; and removes the tumor (benign or malignant) or damaged part of the tract like the intestine.

GASTROESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE (GERD) & HIATAL HERNIAS:  GERD, a symptom of hiatal hernia, occurs when the acid of the stomach pushes back into the esophagus (food pipe). To rectify this disorder, gastroenterology surgery is done to fix the hernia and then wrap the top of the stomach around the esophagus’s bottom. This helps to keep the acid out.

GASTROINTESTIONAL CANCERS: They occur when the tumor becomes malignant. As a result, gastroenterology surgery needs to be performed to remove the cancerous tumor.

HERNIA: It occurs when an organ like the intestine bulges. To rectify this anomaly, gastroenterology surgery needs to be performed; else the problem will become severe and painful.

RECTAL PROLAPSE: It occurs when a part of the intestine comes through the anus. Gastroenterology surgery works effectively to rectify this problem.

Apart from the above, this surgery also plays a key role in treating general diseases of the GI (gastrointestinal) like the chronic inflammation of the digestive tract or inflammatory bowel disease; endoscopic surveillance; pancreatic disease; and reflux esophagitis which occurs commonly due to GERD.
